The 2026 race
So far, no Republicans have announced a primary challenge against Sanders. They have until November to file and challenge her.
Gary Huskey, a Democrat, is running against Sanders. Democratic state Senator Fred Love of Little Rock has also tossed his hat into the ring to run against Sanders. Love, who lives in Little Rock, served previously in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
More Democrats could decide to run against Sanders.
Arkansas is a die-hard red state, though, and any Democratic candidate faces a steep uphill battle against Sanders.
The Sanders campaign has started having a presence in local events around Arkansas. Powell posted the following over the weekend on his X account.
A faction of MAGA Republicans don't support Sanders. They often call her a RINO – Republican In Name Only – and often face opposition by the Republican Party of Arkansas (RPA) at local and state meetings. Sanders, as the state's top Republican, strongly influences the state party.
The Republican and Democratic primaries are in March. Election Day in Arkansas is Nov. 3, 2026.
At the end of the last filing period on March 31, 2025, the Sanders campaign listed $478,381.75 in her coffers on her quarterly campaign finance report filed in April.
