Grant County: High-Speed Chase Ends With Arrest

Several county and city patrol units damaged

Grant County residents posted feverishly on social media Wednesday morning about a high-speed chase near Sheridan.

Yes, unlike a lot of posts on social media that are false. These posts were true.

According to a news release from Grant County Sheriff Pete Roberts, a suspect is now in custody after a pursuit this morning began in the Ico area by Arkansas State Police.

The chase ended in Sheridan with multiple county and city patrol units
damaged.

"But fortunately, successful maneuvers were made to stop the motorist and no citizens or officers were injured," Roberts said in the release.

Grant County Sheriff's Department officers responded to assist Arkansas State Police with a pursuit that began in the Ico area near Grant 56 this morning, June 4.

The suspect, Carlos Smith, 31, of Lamar, fled from ASP Cpl. Todd Williams who was attempting a routine traffic stop, the release stated.

"The pursuit, reaching speeds in excess of 90 mph, continued into Sheridan, where Grant County Sheriff's deputics and
Sheridan Police Department officers joined the effort to get the motorist stopped and to contain the threat to area motorists."

The release stated that spike strips and other maneuvers were used in the efforts to stop Smith during
which three Sheridan Police Department and two Grant County Sheriff's Department patrol units were damaged along with a City of Sheridan vehicle that was in the immediate area.

Smith was finally stopped on Oklahoma Street and taken into
custody with several charges pending from Arkansas State Police. Smith also has deveral warrants for his arrest out of multiple states including Arkansas.
