My Tussle With Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon
I’m on the hunt. I’m after you in a casino and going all in.
Circa 1999
Duran Duran, are playing where?
Tunica? As in Mississippi.
Was I hearing that correctly? Yes, Laura, my high school friend and fellow Duranie says. Tunica.
My teen idols were playing in a gaudy casino in the middle of a cotton patch. How could this be? Duran Duran – the new wave gods of the 1980s – had somewhere taken a wrong turn. Tunica was a far cry from Madison Square Garden where the British band played in 1984 on their “Seven and the Ragged Tiger” world tour. I listened to that concert live on Magic 105 and placed the radio in my bedroom window in Pine Bluff for better reception.
