News of the Weird: The Week That Was
Worn leather shoes. Hillary. Trump in Dubai. Hank's Fine Furniture. Ticks. Blackstone.
The Republicans have wrapped up their convention in Milwaukee. Next up, the Democrats in Chicago come Aug. 19-22. Who knows what that will be?! The Clash's “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” has to be playing on repeat in President Joe Biden's head.
Speaking of politics, with rumors of Hillary perhaps coming in to save the day for Democrats, we just wanted to point out this story Suzi wrote in late June before Biden completely melted down and the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Suzi managed to capture the color of the week at Bryan Paint and Carpet in Pine Bluff. And it's a doozy. Completely unromantic or inspiring.
This paint screams not much left to live for, the marriage is over, let's paint the house, sell it and divorce.
This week we learned:
Researchers recently discovered a creepy doom-and-gloom insect in Arkansas, according to University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture
Tick collected in Boone County confirmed as Asian longhorned tick
Arkansas counties with confirmed ALT now include Benton, Boone, Independence and Washington
ALT carries cattle-killing Theileriaorientalis parasite
Let's go sci-fi.
Blackstone acquired 75% of Ancestry.com in 2020. People are suddenly worried now about their genetic data. Blackstone spokesperson Matt Anderson recently stated, “Blackstone has not and will not access user DNA data.”
First, who knew there was a World Emoji Day? We didn't. That makes us feel old. It was on July 17 apparently. Theres a movement for a new emoji in honor of … sex toys.
Ahead of the world Emoji day and following the bid to get the sex emoji, LELO moves a step further and calls on the public to show off their support in the creation of the sex toy emoji in an effort to break the stigma surrounding masturbation.
Why? We have no clue but we will leave that right there.
A company called Size Graf has performed their own research using Guinness World Records to find out what each state has that's bigger than other states.
The research findings revealed there are several weird items among the most giant things in the United States. Size matters apparently.
We would have never thought this is the largest thing in Arkansas.
That's all we know from the press release we received, but if you know about this drop us a line.

Suzi spotted these in Dollar General this week. She loved the retro design of the label. Then she wondered if these sausages had been canned like in 1950s and stored in a bomb shelter only to emerge now on DG shelves. Every can was dented, or she would have bought a couple to try.
This Trump business announcement on July 18 didn't get much attention this week but we happened to catch it.
Dar Global, the luxury international real estate developer, has announced a prestigious collaboration with The Trump Organization to establish the iconic Trump Tower Dubai. The Prairie Belt Vienna’s were better than the Armor ones. You should have tried them.
Arkansas Democrat Gazette is garbo propaganda, for those who still check it out for like 2 okay writers, I think Phillip martin is a good introspective writer, okay maybe one good writer, it can be fun to read and discuss the angles of Projection, disinformation or is it misinformation. This reckoning is all skeptics have for local news. Albeit I am a little freaked when I commented questions regarding Fordyce shooter Vax status and people got seemingly bristled. I think I lack that need to be liked gene, so it's cool.
