It's been a strange summer, so far. Hot and bizarre. We started this post on Friday and by Saturday afternoon, it seemed inappropriate to send it out given the horrible, violent situation in Pennsylvania concerning former President Donald Trump. It didn't seem right on Sunday either.
Truth is stranger than fiction and not much seems humorous these days.
Because of everything happening in our country, we will keep this brief. Plus we are tired like the girl in the picture. We have been working very hard on stories and fighting for what we feel is right. Like this:
The paint of the week at Bryan Paint and Carpet in Pine Bluff was red, white and blue. The holiday weekend ran into this week apparently. Maybe it's a sign we should remember we are all Americans and be kinder to each other.
Suzi got an ad on Facebook to find an AI boyfriend. She decided to take the quiz and this is who AI generated. No thanks, she said. Note: She is currently very happy in her life. She took the quiz out of curiosity to prove we live in disturbing times.
As always, we would like to thank you for reading. We've been at this for nearly 11 months, and we have grown very quickly with more news tips than we can manage. We are sorry, but we cannot take on every news tip we get. It's simply impossible. There are only two of us, and we are often under fire by people.
We are not a news room with a big staff. Heck, even news rooms aren't as large as they once were. That's because journalism as a whole is sadly dying. People want free news and free advice. We can't do either. We have bills to pay. If you want to see us go for another year, now is the time to subscribe โ $6 a month, $45 a year and $300 as a founding member.
We would like to could continue on our path to expose corruption and get to the bottom of the truth. And you can help.
In the world of weird, we would like to travel back to a simpler time when summers meant lunch meat sandwiches and drinking from a water hose. Who remembers eating one or more of these?
They forgot this one. Suzi amd her mom actually used to eat this on white bread with Hellmann's mayonnaise.
Typo alert. Like we've said there are only two of us. Mistakes happen and some of you like catching them. There's definitely one in this newsletter. Can you find it?
We've heard of boxes filled with toys and snacks for dogs and cats, but they apparently exist for chickens, too.
Speaking of weird, a friend in Paris โ France, that is โ recently shared this. Do you owne one?
Can you even get these in America?
This isn't weird. We just like discovering new music. Velvet Rodeo is from North Carolina. Give them a listen.
Remember to please share our work with your friends and consider a paid subscription so you can read all of our stories, documents in The Dumpster and access the archives.
Oh, and hey, if you see something weird, drop us a line at southarkansasreckoning@proton.me. We would love you to be a contributor to the weird.
I remember the ham and cheese loaf. Problem was never enough slices in the packages.
Also, the banana slicer gives me Lorena Bobbitt creepy vibes.
Another name for Liver Cheese is Braunschweiger, more or less a liver pate. Braunschweiger isnโt a loaf; itโs a short log, like summer sausage. On white bread with mayo feels like a legitimate choice โ no shaming Suzi ๐คซ (Richard). I donโt eat Braunschweiger very often; my Dad liked it from time-to-time. I think itโs best on a sturdy cracker or a slice of baguette. My dad just sliced a piece and ate. Iโm bougie like that ๐
Everybody probably already knows itโs Braunschweiger, but I like to think about the memory of my Dad introducing it to me. No one else in the house would touch it. We had a couple other foods like that. Itโs a find memory for me.
