Reckoning Roundup: Number Four
A New Year! Please subscribe. Schools. Sports. Elections. Please share!
Here we go into ‘24!
A big thank you to everyone who supported us in 2023 from our launch in August to the very end as we talked about peas and greens.
We ended the year with a printed newsletter with a sampling of some of our best stories. Look for it throughout South Arkansas in stores and restaurants where it is heavily being distributed. If you are yearly subscriber, we will even mail you one. Drop us an email.
We hope you like what we’re writing but we need your help. Your $8 a month subscription will help us keep the lights on and our investigations going. Please consider upgrading and becoming a paid subscriber. You are producing independent journalism that goes deeper than the local newspaper – if there is still one in your town.
We are attempting to shed light in Arkansas. We are also always asking a simple question with most stories: Where are our tax dollars going? And why?
We search for stories that involve outsourcing our tax money to corporations – such as public schools paying janitorial services to companies in Tennessee. We examine wasteful spending. We attempt to never jump to conclusions without having all the facts that lead to a complete picture whatever the topic.
But we have fun and we throw Southern stories, sports and culture into the mix, too. We can't be heavy all of the time. We promise to have more of those in 2024.
And yes, politics. After all, it's an election year. Where to start?
Tell us what you want us to write, too. Feel free to send tips.
It's been a busy holiday season, and you may have missed some of our stories over the last couple of weeks. Here's a recap:
Think school boards do the heavy lifting when it comes to hiring a superintendent? Think again. Read that story here.
The Cleveland County School Board seemingly denied a mom the right to choose what was right for her daughters – to transfer out of the district because of alledged bullying. Did the board vote correctly? Listen to the audio and you decide.
On the Friday night before Christmas, the White Hall School Board voted to hire a new coach. It shocked some people.
We also covered other sports like this story about a Pine Bluff Zebra headed to play football at Mizzou helping his community.
If you missed our story on the mind warping happening in our country, be sure to read it if you read nothing else today.
Wishing all of you a Happy New Year! Please share our stories and help us get the word out about South Arkansas Reckoning.
