Sammy,

Are you calling me or Richard "honey bunch"? Or Courtney?

Either way, contain yourself.

I'm not sure why he ran. I will say this, I didn't vote for him the last two times. I went third party, Libertarian and America Solidarity, respectively. With the pure suckfest that is Biden and whoever is pulling his strings I was going to vote for Trump even though Arkansas is a shoe-in for him.

There wasn't a lot I disagreed with, he's just annoying and crass.

After the assassination attempt, I'm definitely pulling the lever for him. Groceries and gas is killing me. Sole breadwinner of a house of four and working three jobs to do it. My W-2 job, the Substack and delivering food on DoorDash and UberEats.

I’m pretty burned out on it too. I watched the professional breakdowns and now just waiting for the fallout in the Secret Service. It gets worse every day.

Also ... why are you apologizing for Putin? Since conservatives no longer oppose Russia like Reagan did, you only whine about the cost. So how about doing a story on how much money the Ukraine war has brought to South Arkansas? Reckon on how much of it is going to Camden to support all those huge defense contractors. Bruce Westerman's district is like the second- or third-highest in defense money received because of the Ukraine war. How about doing a story on all the jobs and expansion in Camden?

And for that matter, we aren't "sending money to Ukraine." We are sending them our old equipment that Reagan bought in the '80s, and backfilling our own stock with new purchases from our defense industry. The old equipment Reagan bought is killing Russians, like it was designed to do.

If Trump wins he will take us out of NATO and ally with Russia. It's a freaking disgrace.

Also why have we not received full disclosure medical reports from his doctors? His ear got nicked. That’s a shame that Americans cant feel safe at a rally, a concert, at church, at elementary school. However something is incredibly fishy. Within an hour of testing positive for Covid, on President Biden the American people had full disclosure medical reports from doctors down to body temperature and oxygen rate. After Paul Pelosi was nearly bludgeoned to death by a right wing nut job that broke into the Pelosi’s house hoping to kill Nancy, we got daily updates on Paul’s progress. After the assassination attempt on Raegan, we had continuous updates on his health by the press.

In short, once you hold high office or even if you’re the spouse of someone holding high office, long ago you gave up the right to health privacy because your physical and mental health matter to the entire country. SO WHY IN THE WORLD DO WE NOT HAVE INFO FROM DOCTORS ON TRUMP?!?!?!?!

Don’t forget that after Paul Pelosi was nearly bludgeoned to death, Trump made fun of him several times at rally’s and speeches. You can easily google the mountains of footage of Trump being so shameful. It was truly shocking and reprehensible. Don’t forget that after January 6th where MAGA crazies beat cops with flags, killed a few cops, and tazed others repeatedly until they had multiple massive heart attacks, that Trump did not in ANY MANNER “back the blue.” Instead just like week, he was praising the January 6th MAGA nut bags as “heroes,” even though they committed the largest, most embarrassing, and most idiotic acts of political violence in our nation’s history.

Before commenting on your post, I want to say that I appreciate and respect your great work.

"I ask myself daily why a man like Trump who can go anywhere, anytime, still wants to be president." - You could also ask why he declared his 2024 candidacy so early(11/15/22). A few thoughts about that: (1) Personal use of campaign donations. One commonly believed reason is that declared candidacy was required for routing leftover 2020 campaign donations (much of it from very low-income citizens) to payment of his personal expenses (e.g., making his private jet fly-able, legal fees, and much more). Plus, filing so early meant he could collect brand new donations for those expenses. It's what allowed him to run up hundreds of millions in legal fees by having his lawyers file motion after motion to delay trials associated with his 2023 indictments. Delaying through the 2024 election would mean that if he won the presidency he could direct the DOJ to dismiss the cases. (2) Avoiding prison. One indictment (the one about willfully retaining sensitive national security documents at Mar-a-Lago, for over a year after being asked repeatedly to send them to the National Archives, and then obstructing government efforts to retrieve the materials, including by repeated lying) could have been an open and shut case. So he knew the probability of prison time was high unless he could delay that trial beyond the 2024 election. If he won, he would have the DOJ dismiss the case. (3) If you're thinking, well, it's not his fault that "Joe Biden was weaponizing the DOJ," please don't let Trump's propaganda deceive you. First, he or the Trump organization has been in the middle of at least one lawsuit probably continuously, or at least regularly, his entire adult life. In recent years, he was ordered to dissolve Trump University based on a class action suit (over fraud, etc.). He was also ordered to dissolve the Trump Foundation based on sole personal use of tax-free donations (no philanthropy), and his family is barred from operating a charity ever again in NY, etc. Of course, more recently, the Trump Org is barred from taking out a loan from any NY bank. In fact, the reason Trump accuses Biden of "weaponizing" the DOJ may be because Trump has regularly weaponized litigation. For example, he would use Trump org money, including from declaring bankruptcy six times, as the means to paying for legal tactics that would outspend the contractors, etc., who sued him for nonpayment, etc., at which point they would give up the cases. And he used his extensive experience from navigating litigation to take out a full-page ad in the New York Times calling for applying the *death penalty* to five teenagers who were falsely accused of "the Central Park rape," one of whom is now an elected public official. The current Attorney General, Merrick Garland, is as dedicated a public servant as you will find, and he and Biden both are institutionalists -- they believe in observing the norms of government, which call for the DOJ to be independent of the president's office. The DOJ is not supposed to be the president's personal law firm, as Trump wanted it to be. So if you believe, as I still do, that no one is above the law, why should Trump not be held accountable for his crimes? Why would holding him accountable be considered "weaponizing" the justice system? I do realize that the Supreme Court recently decided that all presidents are immune from crimes they commit within official acts of the office --> insane and never before needed!! But imo, Merrick Garland's key flaw of waiting so long to file the federal indictment about Jan. 6 , 2021 (interfering with the constitution's provision for transfer of power) amounted to the opposite of weaponizing the DOJ, as was all the time and special treatment they gave Trump in the separate Mar-a-Lago docs case, asking repeatedly over way too many months that he return the sensitive national security documents. If anything, Biden might have been frustrated that it took the Garland 2+ years to file the obviously warranted indictment over Jan. 6. Garland, btw, oversaw the investigation of the Oklahoma City bombing with laser focus and as of last Saturday's assassination attempt, he cleared his schedule in order to personally oversee the investigation set in Pennsylvania regarding the deaths that occurred at the rally. He's as serious a public servant as they come. Allowing the DOJ to be weaponized is not who he is. If you've read this crazily long comment (sorry), if you take nothing else away, please consider that Attny General Merrick Garland is a man of honor. (4) I clearly don't respect Trump, but I do recognize that he is immensely skilled at showmanship of the selling-snake-oil type. You probably know that his tens of thousands of lies told during four years of office are well documented. And his craze from a month or so ago about the FBI (and/or Biden) calling for his assassination was over a statement in the **standard** FBI search warrant form, always signed by a federal judge. The statement at issue is for the purpose of curtailing the use of force -- the opposite of his accusation. Bottom line, his showman's talent, combined with malignant narcissim and who knows what else, is frightening and dangerous. (None of this, of course, warrants being shot at last weekend with an assault rifle.)

I do respect your work though! Thank you for doing it.

Oh what the hell. As a former journalist myself, I subscribed to help independent journalists in my area. But you aren't independent, you're just another conservative who is supporting a fascist. I'm sorry I even subscribed now that I know you're biased against democracy. Trump is a fascist, Vance is a fascist, and you support them. I wish I could take my money back; good luck getting conservatives to support your shoestring journalism. What a damn shame.

It's not secret service negligence to not have someone covering that rooftop it's an orchestrated assassination attempt. It's a jfk style hit because trump is going to get us out of a stupid war that's killing the Ukrainian and Russian people and will lead to ww3.

All of the seriously bad actors that are knowingly pro globalism hate trump the most, they are evil people that do not have middle class pro family values, therefore I like trump. Middle class pro family Christian values is pro humanity. The important issues of a globalist are removing the nation, removing borders and growing the centralization of power which always leads to more and more corruption.

It's clear there are people so delusional that they dont want to admit that Biden is destroying this country. They are too delusional to admit life was better under Trump. You don't have to be a Republican to see that, you just have to use common sense. We pay more for groceries, gas, rent, and everything else now. Stop being do blinded by the democrat party that you vote against your own self interest. Anyone who claims things are better now are in denial or lying to themselves

My whole point was things were cheaper and better under Trump. A president can't unilaterally lower or raise gas prices, but their policies can. Also calling a woman honey bunch is condescending. Have a good day.

Expand full comment

If presidents could affect prices easily with their policies we would probably always have low prices. During Obama's second term, inflation averaged 1.2% annually. Why? Probably a typical complicated set of economic stuff associated with recovery of the deep recession that hit at the end of G.W. Bush's term.

Trump inherited awesome trend lines for low inflation, employment, etc. Inflation increased under Trump, but still at reasonable rate. As Nikki Haley pointed out repeatedly, his tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest households did increase the national debt by *a lot*.

Anyway, I googled Biden's comment about gas prices. From White House: "In an effort to reduce gasoline prices this summer, the Biden administration is releasing approximately one million barrels of reserve gasoline supplies. The gasoline will be released in 100,000-barrel increments from reserves in Maine and New Jersey created after Superstorm Sandy." And btw we've produced an oil surplus for the first time under Biden after reachingTrump breakeven under Trump. He likes to suggest that we're no longer energy independent; not true.

After the global pandemic, inflation skyrocketed. Tough, tough years especially the pandemic years under Trump where thousands died every day. Thankfully inflation had come down a lot and I hope it continues to do so. America’s inflation rate is much lower than ANY other country in the world and that’s why our economy is the envy of the world, currently.

Trump’s tax cuts for billionaires have shot our national debt through the roof. These tax cuts expire in 2025. God help us all if Trump is re-elected because he intends to make these tax cuts permanent. As always, Republicans give corporate welfare to billionaire business owners that the rest of us normal people like hairstylists, teachers, and nurses have to pay for. It saddens me greatly to know that people will believe any right wing propaganda and are so gullible that they won’t even seek out real news and reputable sources so they understand what is happening.

Stop watching right-wing media such as Fox News, OAN, etc. Fox had to pay $787 MILLION in fines for lying about the last election being stolen. Every witness that worked at Fox admitted under oath that they are not real news or journalism;that they are for entertainment only. Each witness knew that if they lied while under oath, they would go to jail for perjury. So they told the truth. That they are fake news; that they knew the election wasn’t stolen; that Trump is an ignorant blowhard that doesn’t know the first thing about leading a country; that they think anyone who believed the election was stolen was dumb; but that they understood they couldn’t tell the truth because if they did, their ratings would go down.

For the love of our country, be smart enough to realize that all you have to do is read about this court case, read the transcript itself if you want to, but dear sweet Jesus please at least be smart enough to realize that the right-wing propaganda channel that is paying out almost a billion in fines for lying is doing just that on the daily—lying to you. Good God.

Susie, it has been on every reputable news source that the shooter and his parents were long-time registered Republicans, all who voted Republican in the previous 2 elections. The Crooks family were even pinpointed in 2016 by inter-party data mining as one of the top 20 gun-friendly Repubs that would respond positively to gun messages.

It’s part of the pattern of political violence/mass violence. Statistically speaking, those committing political violence are fringe right-wing nutjobs like the q-anon dude who broke into the Pelosi’s house and nearly killed Nancy Pelosi’s husband or the MAGA-crazies on January 6th who killed a few cops and repeatedly tazed other cops until they had multiple massive heart attacks.
