A big screen TV sat on a table in the Dallas County Courthouse courtroom.

Pictures of Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson hung on the wall on either side of the table.

Victims and families sat quietly behind the prosecution's table Wednesday afternoon for a hearing to begin about Travis Eugene "Joey" Posey, the alleged shooter in the Fordyce Mad Butcher mass shooting on June 21, 2024.

Four people died and 11 people were injured in the shooting.

At 2 p.m., Posey along with Gregg Parrish, executive director of the Arkansas Public Defender Commission, appeared on the screen from the Ouachita County Jail.

Posey's dark hair specked with grey was in buzz cut. He had a goatee and wore glasses. A handcuff banded one wrist while its mate dangled. A hole flashed in Posey's inmate orange shirt.

Jeffrey Rogers, prosecuting attorney for the 13th Judicial District, led the prosecution's team.

The defense immediately asked to approach Circuit Judge Spencer Singleton's bench. The prosecution followed. Both sides went into the judge's chambers.

Posey talked to Parrish but the screen was muted. Occassionally, Posey smiled – slightly.

Once he scratched his arm several times.

After about 15 or 20 minutes – cell phones are not allowed in the courtroom and no clock was within eyesight to watch the time – Rogers and the defense team exited the judge's chamber.

Whatever was supposed to occur Wednesday did not.

The judge moved all topics to a June 18th hearing.

After the hearing, Rogers met with victims and families.

Posey's trial is scheduled to start Aug. 4 in Fordyce.
